Injectables and Fillers

PuraVida's injectable menu offers a wide array of products to address not only the wrinkles themselves, but the muscles that cause lines and furrows to form. Injectable fillers plump up wrinkles while other agents, such as Botox® and Dysport, prevent the muscle contractions that lead to etched lines.

What is Botox® Cosmetic and how does it work?

Botox® Cosmetic is a simple, non-surgical, treatment option for those of us fighting the signs of aging. Botox® is designed to reduce the excessive muscle activity that causes fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Frown lines and facial wrinkles can be a thing of the past with Botox® Cosmetic.
Botox® cosmetic is a purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. This protein relaxes the muscles so that the skin's appearance becomes smoother and more youthful looking within days.

  • What's the hype about Botox®?
  • Botox® Cosmetic is used for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines found between the brows. It is also used to help lessen the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead or around the eyes. Botox® will, over time, fade these symptoms giving you an instantly smoother, rejuvenated appearance that will last for about four months.
Botox® treatments have also been found to be successful in the treatment of other facial lines and wrinkles around the lower eyelids, as well as the nasal fold (found around the nose and mouth). Botox has also been used as a non-surgical brow-lift or when used in conjunction with surgical procedures including forehead lifts, face-lifts, and eyelid surgery.

  • How often are Botox® treatments needed?
  • Because Botox® is a non-surgical treatment option, its wonderful benefits are not permanent but will last upwards of 4 months. Results are different for everyone but will leave you with a rejuvenated facial appearance. Extremely severe lines may never completely fade, but will gradually become less noticeable. Your doctor will work with you in designing a treatment schedule that will create optimal results.
If you decide to discontinue your Botox® treatments, you will notice a reemergence of the lines and wrinkles you had lost.

  • What is a Botox® treatment session like?
  • Before receiving a Botox® injection your doctor will ask about any allergies or medical conditions that may make Botox® a less than ideal treatment option for you. No anesthesia is needed; if you are sensitive to pain your doctor may recommend an anesthetic cream or cold pack to numb the area.
The treatment procedure is fast and easy. Your doctor will decide where to place each of the injections for your optimal results. The entire injection process only takes about 10 minutes. And what's more is there is little to no downtime, so you can go back to your regular activities without missing a step.

  • Is Botox® right for me?
  • Men and women between the ages of 18 and 65 are possible candidates for Botox® injections. Studies have found that 90% of patients showed improvement in the severity of their frown lines and wrinkles. Only your doctor can decide if Botox® is right for you. Patients with certain medical conditions, those that are pregnant or may soon become pregnant, and those with recurring infections or on recurrent antibiotic use may not be candidates for Botox® injections.

  • Are Botox® injections safe? What are, if any, side effects?
  • For many patients Botox® is a perfectly safe treatment option. However, it is important to inform your doctor about any diseases affecting muscular control, any allergies, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and any medications you may be taking, as they may react adversely with the ingredients found in Botox®.
The most common side effects are pain, infection, inflammation, swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising at the injection site. For some patients, temporary eyelid droop and nausea may be experienced following a Botox® injection. Patients with various neuromuscular disorders (ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome are examples) have a higher risk for serious side effects.

    Goodbye Wrinkles!

Dysport® has been FDA approved and released in the U.S. to join Botox® in the fight against wrinkles. Dysport® has actually been distributed for cosmetic uses abroad for several years. Dysport® got its start, not as a cosmetic skin care treatment, but as a medical remedy for muscle spasms and movement disorders. The drug's benefit for aging skin was discovered as a pleasant side effect, and the Dysport® movement took off from there.

    What is an injectable filler?

Injectable fillers, sometimes called "dermal fillers", are specially designed cosmetic treatments that are used to reduce and sometimes eliminate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that make us look older. They help to reverse the signs of aging while providing a more youthful, refreshed, and healthier appearance. Say goodbye to the lines, creases, and hollowed areas that many of us get as we age; and say hello to the fuller, healthier, look of youth. When searching for the perfect dermal filler it is important to understand that each is designed in a specific way to meet your specific needs.

    Bellafill®

Bellafill® is a unique injectable collagen filler that instantly fills facial wrinkles for a beautiful, natural look and long lasting results. Bellafill is the only dermal filler on the market that is FDA approved for the correction of moderate to severe acne scarring. Because this product contains purified, denatured bovine collagen, a skin test is recommended prior to your treatment.

    Important Safety Information

Bellafill® is indicated for the correction of nasolabial folds and moderate to severe, atrophic, distensible facial acne scars on the cheek in patients over the age of 21 years. For more safety information, please visit www.bellafill.com.

Sculptra Aesthetic is the first facial injectable that gives you subtle results over time. The injections, performed in a series of treatments over a few months, works to restore lost volume. It is made from a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid, which is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body.

Juvederm® The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Juvederm® product line in June 2006. Juvederm® is an injectable treatment for moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. Juvederm® products are gels made from hyaluronic acid. They are injected into the face. Doctors report good results after a single treatment with Juvederm®, and the results last for at least 6 months.

Juvederm® is a gel produced from hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring element in skin that helps to produce volume and hydration. This gel is designed to refresh the look of skin and erase the signs of aging. This is the only FDA approved hyaluronic acid filler that has a proven track record for great results, found quickly and safely.
Juvederm® is administered through a fine injection directly into the mid to deep dermis to help fill in the unwanted lines and creases. Before receiving a Juvederm® injection it is important to discontinue the use of any medications that could prolong bleeding (including aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories). In general, the injection process takes approximately 15 minutes; and because this is a non-surgical treatment there is little to no downtime.
What happens following a Juvederm® injection?
After you have received your injection our doctor may recommend that you avoid excessive exercise, sun or heat exposure, and alcoholic beverage consumption for approximately one day. This is to diminish the risk of temporary swelling, redness, and/or itching at the injection site. For some patients injection-related reactions have been reported. These reactions include pain, redness, swelling, or bumps. These symptoms have been mild and reported to have disappeared within one week.
You will be thrilled with the results; most patients report that the treatment area shows fewer fine lines and wrinkles, as well as a reduction in the appearance of facial folds. Results are visible immediately. For many patients optimal results are achieved with one treatment, which can last up to 9 months. On occasion follow-up or "touch-up" injections may be needed for maintenance purposes.
    Restylane®
Restylane® is a cosmetic filler used to create smooth, healthy looking skin, as well as to enhance lips, reduce the severity of nasolabial folds, chin augmentation and acne scarring, and to help create an almost flawless appearance. This clear gel filler contains hyaluronic acid and is used to fill in the collagen that has been lost or damaged as we age. Restylane® does not use any animal products and is completely safe for all skin types. This non-surgical cosmetic alternative requires a few simple injections and no downtime. Restylane® is available in a variety of forms to fit the cosmetic needs of almost anyone. Our doctor at PuraVida Medspa, can advise you on the best choice of dermal filler for your individual needs. Like other dermal fillers, Restylane® is injected directly into the treatment area and provides fast and easy results that you will love.
What are the benefits and risks of Restylane®?
The benefits of Restylane® are seen immediately. You will notice smoother, younger looking skin with minimal amounts of pain and no recovery time. Most people who have received Restylane® injections have found immediate results; however, it may take two or three days for your appearance to stabilize since our natural processes require time to assimilate the additional hyaluronic acid. As you pass through this you will notice wonderful results that should last up to six months. Restylane® gives you the flexibility to contour your features exactly the way you want them. You and our doctor can create a treatment schedule that works for you. Restylane® is a safe treatment option but some minor side effects are possible. These include redness, minimal swelling, or mild discomfort, all of which are temporary and should diminish within a few days.
    Radiesse®
Radiesse® is an innovative dermal filler that fills in fine lines and wrinkles and adds volume to lost or damaged collagen. Radiesse® is different because it gives the same great results as other dermal fillers but lasts much longer and helps to stimulate your own natural production of collagen. This means a natural look that you will love with fewer trips to the doctor's office, which can save you time and money.
Radiesse® is created using a water-based gel containing calcium-based micro-spheres able to co-exist with your natural skin tissue. This biocompatibility means no allergy testing and a flawless natural look that compliments your facial contours. Administered within 15 minutes, you can be on your way in no time.
Enjoy beautiful results and low risks with Radiesse®
You will notice the results immediately and they will continue for up to 12 months. This is 2 to 4 times longer than some other collagen injections. So why wait? Start enjoying a more youthful appearance today! In some cases minor swelling occurs but this should diminish with 24 hours. Radiesse® wrinkle filler stimulates your body to produce your own natural collagen, to restore fullness and smooth out the signs of aging.

XEOMIN® is the latest neurotoxin to join Botox® and Dysport® in the US. It is FDA approved for treatment of frown lines and wrinkles in the face. Neurotoxins, such as XEOMIN®, are prescription medications that paralyze wrinkles and soften frown lines by blocking the release of chemicals that cause muscle contractions.

Nose correction or the ”non-surgical nose job” has become a popular alternative for many who seek to correct mild to moderated nasal imperfections without having to undergo surgery. The procedure also has no effect on nasal breathing since it involves only injection into the skin. Results are immediate, with minimal down time and mild discomfort. Nose correction is an excellent option for patients who want a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure and who are looking for fast, satisfying results.

BBL™ (BroadBand Light) Photo Rejuvenation Therapy (or V-IPL)

A revolutionary technology, known as selective photothermolysis, is a treatment that can be tailored to treat age spots, hyper-pigmentation, facial spider veins, rosacea, acne and more. As technology is constantly improving, we now have an option that provides a comfortable yet effective solution.

  • What is BBL™?
  • BBL™ - Photo Rejuvenation is a cosmetic treatment designed to treat the visible signs of sun damage, brown spots, rosacea, broken capillaries and age spots. Over time, our skin begins to show the signs of aging. By using this Broad Band Light technology, Photo Rejuvenation can help to create younger looking skin. A pulsating broad beam of highly concentrated light is directed to the specific area being treated. This light selectively targets the desired area and will not cause damage to the surrounding skin. Photo Rejuvenation is the only procedure that can treat vascular redness, the appearance of rosacea, brown spots, and sun damage.

  • What is a Photo Rejuvenation treatment like?
  • Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. You will have to wear protective eye wear. The technician will apply a cool gel to the area being treated. During the treatment you may notice a warming sensation or a slight snapping feeling. After a treatment, the area may be pink or red; this will fade. You may resume normal activities immediately. How many treatment sessions are needed? Many patients notice a difference after a single treatment. To reap the full benefits of Photo Rejuvenation, three to four treatments may be needed. You can discuss with your technician how many treatments will be needed.

  • Are there any risks?
  • Photo Rejuvenation is a safe and effective treatment option. Any side effects are mild and temporary. These may include redness, bruising, or temporary darkening of brown spots.

    Aging Skin

Discover anti-age for the modern age.

Aging skin loses its elasticity, starts to show age spots or hyperpigmentation, suffers from broken capillaries or red spots, and starts to sag. We have many ways to address these issues with a combination of lasers, peels, neurotoxins and fillers, not to mention physician-grade products.

    Wrinkles & Fine Lines

We all get wrinkles as we get older – they're a normal part of aging.

With age, skin cells divide more slowly, and the skin's inner layer, called the dermis, begins to thin, hence undoing skin's stretchiness and structure. Aging skin also starts to lose its ability to hold on to moisture, makes less oil, and is slower to heal. All of which contributes to the wrinkling process.

    Enlarged Pores

So what exactly causes large pores?

    1. Dirt- when oil and dirt collect in your skin, it causes your skin to swell.
    2. Age- as you get older your skin loses its elasticity.
    3. Sun damage- exposure to the sun makes your skin thicken, causing skin cells to collect around the edges of your pores, which stretch them out.
    4. Sex- in general, males tend to have larger pores than females. Women might experience enlarged pores more often during hormonal changes, however, particularly during menstruation.

    Sun Damage & Brown Spots

Did you know that 36 percent of women are bothered by age spots?

These dark patches are known technically as hyperpigmentation and typically appear on the face, hands, shoulders and arms. They are caused by the over-production of melanin, the brown pigment within the skin, brought about by long-term exposure to ultraviolet light. Other causes may include aging, poor liver function, genetics, hormonal changes and certain medications.

    Acne

Many of us have been battling acne by using the typical creams and ointments, but now there is an innovative technology that can leave your skin looking clearer and smoother in just a few short weeks.

Acne is a condition that causes inflammation of the skin in the form of clogged pores, pimples, cysts, blackheads and whiteheads. Severe acne can lead to scarring. This new BBL Pulsed Light Technology can be used to improve the appearance of acne scars as well. The BBL Pulsed Light Technology produced from the Sciton Laser dramatically improves skin condition and gives you back the clear complexion you have been striving for.

    Redness & Rosacea

Rosacea is a very common skin disease that affects people over the age of 30.

The diseases cause redness and or bumps on your nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead. The disease often flares when something causes the blood vessels in the face to expand, which causes redness. Common triggers are exercise, sun and wind exposure, hot weather, stress, spicy foods, alcohol, and hot baths. Swings in temperature from hot to cold or cold to hot can also cause a flare-up of rosacea.

Permanent Makeup A Beautiful Investment in Yourself!

    Wake Up in Your Makeup!

Our state of the art technology can provide perfectly designed eyebrows, eyeliner, lip liner and color. Other procedures include scar camouflage, hairline enhancement, vitiligo, and areolar restorations.

    Chemical and Medical Peels

Chemical peels can treat the face, neck or hands. A chemical solution is applied to the skin; this chemical is designed to cause specific layers to peel off by separating or blistering, allowing smoother and healthier skin to emerge.

Medical facials are more aggressive than a regular facial at a day spa, because we often combine microdermabrasion with some stronger level peels than are used elsewhere. These are often customized to target your exact concerns, such as aging, acne, or rejuvenation. These treatments are designed to pamper you as well as to give you a medical grade treatment.

    Superficial Skin Resurfacing | MicroLaserPeel®

Now you can have younger looking, healthier feeling skin with a popular new treatment-the MicroLaserPeel®. This peel treats skin conditions associated with aging and an active lifestyle. You can see real improvements in just a few days. It is an intra-epidermal laser peel that precisely ablates the outermost layers of the skin. You will experience smoother, healthier, more vibrant skin, with significant, immediate changes in skin texture and tightness.

  • What is MicroLaserPeel®?
  • The MicroLaserPeel® procedure was designed for those wanting more than microdermabrasion or light chemical peels, and have little time for a prolonged healing process.

The MicroLaserPeel® removes a thin layer of damaged skin to improve texture and provide a more youthful appearance. It provides superior results because it can be administered with great precision of depth.
MicroLaserPeel®'s beam is scanned over a treatment area to remove a very thin layer of skin. Removing the top layer eliminates some of the damaged cells that can give skin a tired, aged look. As the skin heals, fresh cells grow and resurface the treated area. The result is healthier-looking skin, often with reduced wrinkles and improved color tone. Patients often remark that it looks like their skin changed from looking tired to looking vibrant.

  • How many treatments are needed?
  • Excellent results can be obtained in just one treatment, however the number of treatments needed may vary from patient to patient. Dr. Apgar will customize your plan based on your needs and may choose to combine this procedure with others to further personalize and maximize your results.

  • Will it be painful?
  • One of the primary advantages is that it causes little pain as it does not penetrate very deeply. At its most shallow setting, most people can tolerate treatment with no anesthetic at all. At deeper settings, a topical numbing cream can be used as well as the Zimmer chiller, which blows freezing cold air on the skin during the procedure, providing excellent numbing.

  • What is the recovery process like?
  • Immediately after the treatment you will notice your skin is red or pink. The dehydrated skin will peel away within the next few days following treatment. You may experience some skin redness and a sensation resembling a mild sunburn, as well as mild swelling. Most patients notice an obvious improvement in tone, texture and color evenness once the skin heals in approximately three to five days. Depending on the depth of treatment, most patients feel comfortable enough to return to work within three to five days also.

  • What type of aftercare will I need?
  • You may be given skin care products and instructions on how to use them. Your skin will be sensitive to ultra-violet light after the procedure, so you must avoid direct sun exposure until fully healed. We don't need to tell you, but as a reminder, always use sunscreen to protect against those harmful UV rays.
